Set Paste Default to Match Style on macOS

Purpose

This article gives the steps to set the default Command+V to "Paste to Match Style" in a single application or for all.


Environment

  • macOS Mojave 10.14.2


Create Command+V Shortcut

Created a keyboard shortcut to replace the Command+Shift+V with the regular Command+V

  1. Open System Preferences
  2. Select Keyboard
  3. Select Shortcuts
  4. Select App Shortcuts
  5. Select the + sign at the bottom to add a shortcut
  6. Select All Applications OR a specific app
  7. Enter Menu Title Paste and Match Style (Exactly like that, including case)
  8. Type Command+V for the keyboard shortcut
  9. Select Add

Create Command+Option+V Shortcut

Created a keyboard shortcut to replace the regular Command+V with Command+Option+V incase we ever require it. For this though we want to be specific on which applications to change. Since the not all applications include the "Paste and Match Style"

  1. Open System Preferences
  2. Select Keyboard
  3. Select Shortcuts
  4. Select App Shortcuts
  5. Select the + sign at the bottom to add a shortcut
  6. Select <application name>
  7. Enter Menu Title Paste (Exactly like that, including case)
  8. Type Command+Option+V for the keyboard shortcut
  9. Select Add
