Install Tilix on Linux

Purpose

This article gives the steps to install Tilix Terminal on Linux from CLI.


Test Environment

  • Amazon Linux 2 Workspace


Install

wget https://github.com/gnunn1/tilix/releases/download/${tilix_version}/tilix.zip -P $HOME/Downloads
sudo unzip $HOME/Downloads/tilix.zip -d /
sudo glib-compile-schemas /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/


Install Monaco Font (Optional)

sudo mkdir -p /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-monaco && \
sudo wget http://www.gringod.com/wp-upload/software/Fonts/Monaco_Linux.ttf -O - > \
/usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-monaco/Monaco_Linux.ttf && \
sudo fc-cache


Settings

List of my personal tweaks for Tilix on Amazon Linux 2 Workspace.

  1. Set theme like default Ubuntu terminal colors
    Menu > Preferences > Profiles > Default > Color > Color scheme > Yaru
    1. OR make a new one and set as default.
  2. Set Tilix font
    Menu > Preferences > Profiles > Default > General > Custom font > Monaco Bold 10
  3. Set Terminal Size
    Menu > Preferences > Profiles > Default > General > 320 x 96
