Add Date to Mac OS Menubar

Purpose

This article gives the steps to add the date to your menubar without installing any additional applications on Mac OS X Yosemite.


Simple Display (Option 1)

  1. Open System Preferences | Data & Time | Clock
  2. Select Data Options Show date

Custom Display (Option 2)

  1. Open System Preferences | Data & Time | Open Language & Region | Advanced | Dates
  2. Configure a date how you'd like it to look before the time. Copy the configuration then hit restore defaults at bottom
  3. Select Times Tab
  4. Paste your Date layout in front of the time on the Medium line
  5. By default the day will be listed on the menu bar and now that you have your own layout that includes that you'll probably want to turn that off.
    1. Open System Preferences | Data & Time | Clock
    2. Uncheck Show the day of the week
  6. Restart
